Satan does not need to overpower us in order to win the war. He only needs to get us to adopt his way of fighting it.
Sacrificing the tendencies of the flesh in Jesus’ pattern matters more than we can imagine. In every moment we are choosing either liberty and eternal life in the Savior’s pattern, “according to the will of his Holy Spirit,” or “captivity and death,” in Satan’s pattern, “according to the will of the flesh and the evil which is therein” (2 Nephi 2:27–29)—and everything depends upon how we choose
